HOW I WORK

Past experiences can affect the ways that we think, behave and relate to ourselves and others in our present lives.  Psychodynamic counselling enables us to explores our, often unconscious, choices, beliefs, resistances or patterns which may have built up over time without us noticing. These can often leave us feeling stuck and with an unhelpful view of ourselves and our world.  By understanding how our past affects our present, we can then work together, using additional methods such as the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to make changes. This combined approach enables us to find alternative ways to become free from painful ways of living in order to move forward towards a happier and more fulfilling way of being. This will be done only at your own pace and in a way that feels comfortable for you.

My belief is that building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is vital in counselling, where you feel that you can speak freely without being judged for either your past or your present choices in life. My main focus will be on providing a safe, empathic and confidential space in which to explore any emotional issues that you may be struggling with on your own. These may be relationship difficulties, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, bereavement or addiction, to name a few. We can work together to find ways to help you to achieve freedom, contentment and fulfilment.  As everyone is unique and has different requirements at different times, I work in an integrative way, drawing on a broader range of approaches as the work progresses.

We can discuss your specific needs in our first session.
